I sometimes will put down scribbles on my first layers and then later scratch into the surface to reveal the crayons. Love that! These are water-soluble. If you prefer a more permanent mark, try Neocolor I. |
These are not water-soluble, so they're great on the final layer (or any layer!).

Great to use for mark making--either wet or dry! |

These are great when you're just starting out and you're not sure if you want to use pastels long-term. I've enjoyed using them in my art. |
Love these vibrant colors! These are water-soluble. |
Love these charcoal pencils for mark making. Add some matte medium over them or a fixative spray to preserve the lines. |
Try dipping the graphite pencil in water and then making marks. It's drippy and sloppy and I LOVE that about it! |
Love me a stabilo pencil! Very similar to charcoal. I have only used the black one but would love to try all the colors. |
There are many China markers out there, but the cheaper ones break. I love the black, white and yellow most. They are NOT water-soluble. |

I have this set which offers so many colors that I can divide up the set to have them in two painting stations (standing up and sitting). |
Perfect for scooping up, mixing, and adding paint to your artwork. |

Royal Langnickel Aqualon Taklon Brush Set - Filbert/Wash, Set of 7 |
This is a good set with a variety of sizes for working smaller. This is just one of many to choose from. Try out different ones to see which ones you like best. |

The reason I love Bristol paper is because it is sooooo smooth! I add a layer of gesso before I start. My favorite sizes are 9x12, 11x14 and 17x14. And I prefer the smooth ones (not vellum). |
Another favorite when working on paper. I like to use 24x18 mostly. |
I personally like the “splined” ones better than the staple-back (it just looks neat and clean). I also prefer the 1.5” deep canvases. |
Perfect to extend the drying time of your paints. I personally prefer my paint to dry quickly, but I get a lot of requests, so I’m including it here. |

I have used Liquitex Gesso for years and only recently started using Nova Color Gesso (www.novacolorpaint.com). Love the consistency of both brands. |
I love to use the matte, satin, and gloss varnishes by Liquitex. I’ve been using them for years and they go on perfectly every time. |
By far, one of my favorite fixative sprays to secure my mark-making before using Liquitex varnish. |
I've had mine for more than 6 years and it still works great! Perfect for drying layers and doesn't blow away your small pieces on paper! |

I LOVE Nova Color paints for a variety of reasons: 1) excellent pigmentation (color); 2) consistency (fluid paint); 3) price (so affordable). I also love their gesso. You can request a color chart, which shows the actual color, by emailing them. It’s free. I don’t receive compensation for referring you to Nova Color paint, but if you can please write in the order notes that I sent you, it let’s them know where you found out about them. Maybe someday they’ll create an affiliate program! Thanks! |

Great for all canvas sizes. |

I prefer to use this French cleat hanging system for my really large canvases (60x60 and up). |

This wire is coated in plastic which makes it easier to handle. |
